Radiator  The main cooling unit for the vehicle's engine. The radiator is almost always directly behind the front grill, and has a honeycombed appearance. The radiator is very delicate, as it is made of very thin metal for effective heat transfer, and is normally made of aluminum or brass.

Radiator Cooling Fan  The cooling fan mounted on the radiator, it circulates cooling air through the radiator's fins to facilitate more airflow and better cooling. The cooling fan can either be electric or belt driven, and sometimes incorporates a clutch mechanism.

Radiator Shroud  The protective metal or plastic covering around the radiator, it also provides a means of directing airflow around the radiator and enhancing cooling capability.

Radiator Support  The radiator mounts, normally at the top and bottom (and sometimes the sides) of the radiator. They're normally made of sheet metal and rubber components.

Radio  Audio reproduction device for playing music. Most often incorporated with a CD player or Cassette player as an entertainment center.

Rear Clip  The entire sheet metal assembly extending from the rear window, including the fenders, up to and including the rear bumper assembly.

Relay (Electrical)  Magnetically operated "switches" used throughout the vehicle; relays control high-amperage devices by using low amperage (low power) controls.

Rim  The metal portion of the wheel that the tire is actually mounted onto, the rim bolts onto the hub assembly. Rims come in many styles, from the plain, steel, painted, rims to the "Spinners" which may cost several thousand dollars.

Ring Gear and Pinion  A part of the differential assembly, the pinion takes the turning force from the drive shaft, and by connecting to the ring gear, changes the turning force by 90 degrees and send it to the wheels.

Rocker Panel  The panels directly underneath each of the doors, the rocker panels protect the bottoms of the doors from rocks and other road debris, and enhance the appearance of the vehicle by hiding the frame and other underbody mechanisms.

Roll Bar  A safety device, most often used in off-road vehicles, that prevents the vehicle cab from crushing in case of a rollover. The roll bar is a large pipe or tube that is mounted inside the cab.

Roof Assembly  The roof of the vehicle and all associated hardware and sheet metal.

Roof Glass  Any glass mounted in the roof of a vehicle, i.e., a "sunroof", or "T" Top glass.

Roof Rack  Racks mounted on the top of a vehicle used for carrying oversized articles, roof racks can range from simple rails to entire load carrying systems.

Rotor (Brake, Front)  The front brake "disc", it's mounted on the front hub and is the part that the brake caliper "grabs" when the brakes are applied.

Rotor (Brake, Rear)  The rear brake "disc", it's mounted on the front hub and is the part that the brake caliper "grabs" when the brakes are applied.

Running Board  Flat metal "steps" mounted underneath the doors, normally on off-road vehicles or pickups.
