Tilt wheel knuckle came loose. I removed wheel and ignition cylinder to tighten the knuckle bolts. Now, car wants to cut out and die but not all the time. After I made the repair, I drove for about an hour just fine. Turned off and it restarted and drove fine. Turned off second time and it would not restart for a while. Now with ignition turned on, the cooling fan starts and the service engine light flashes.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

If the engine is still hot, the cooling fan will kick on when ignition is on. If fan is coming on when engine is cold then I have no clue.

I would jumper the ALDL, find what code its bringing up, then go from there.

The next thing to do (and I'm sure you've thought of this) is to retrace your steps by pulling the steering wheel apart and make sure there were no shorted or damaged wiring.

These are the things that come to my mind. There are many other people with greater knowledge and understanding. Maybe they can help out.

I've heard a few people tell me that they've had the ignition switch go bad on older cavliers. The one at the bottom of the steering column. Maybe you could check the adjustment, after you replaced the key tumbler, it may have pulled the rod out of adjustment. Should be a couple little screws that hold the swith to the column that has a little adjustment slide in it.

Thanks. I really appreciate your input. I have done that. I will do it again, and if I still have the problem, I can try a used column.

I get an error code 22, I think. One cause is a fuel cut-off and the other is a short.
