I have a 1997 ford f-150. When I turn on the air cond. I hear a thumping sound that varies According to engine rpm.The air conditioner blows cold air,and the defrost works, but goes thump, thump, thump.Could this be low freon or a problem with the compressor? Or maybe somthing else? Any clue?

| Check for belt tension. Sounds like it may have a compressor problem if it only happens with a/c on. Possible compressor clutch problem.

Check to see if you need a new belt too. A belt may appear good, but the tensioner has marks on it to indicate when the belt has become stretched beyond its limits.
